🚀 Getting Started
Grant Photo Library Access
On first launch, the app will ask for permission to access your Photo Library. Tap Allow Full Access to let the app scan your entire library. Without this, the app cannot detect duplicates or similar photos.
Start a Scan
Tap Scan Now from the home screen. The app will analyze your full photo and video library on-device. Scan time depends on library size — most libraries complete in under a minute.
Review Results
Browse results grouped by category: Duplicates, Similar Shots, Blurry Photos, and Low Quality. Tap any group to review photos side-by-side before deciding what to delete.
Delete & Reclaim Space
Select the photos you want to remove and tap Delete. You can delete one at a time or entire groups at once. Always review carefully — deletions move photos to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app, where they remain for 30 days before being permanently removed.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does Magic Photo Cleaner upload my photos to a server?
Never. All scanning and analysis happens entirely on your device using Apple's built-in frameworks. Your photos, videos, and metadata never leave your iPhone or iPad. We have no servers that receive your media, and we collect zero personal data. You can even use the app in Airplane Mode.
If I delete a photo in the app, will it also be deleted from iCloud?
It depends on your iCloud settings. If your device has iCloud Photos enabled (Settings → Photos → iCloud Photos), then yes — deletions will sync to iCloud and across all your Apple devices connected to the same iCloud account.
How does duplicate detection work?
The app uses on-device hashing and Apple's Vision framework to compare photos. Exact duplicates are identified by comparing file content — if two photos are byte-for-byte identical, they're flagged. Similar shots use visual similarity scoring to find photos taken in the same moment, same burst, or with nearly identical composition, even if they're not exactly the same file.
Can I recover a photo after I delete it?
Yes — for up to 30 days. When you delete a photo through Magic Photo Cleaner (or any app), iOS moves it to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app. Open Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted, select the photo, and tap Recover. After 30 days, the photo is permanently deleted from your device (and iCloud, if enabled).
What types of issues does the app detect?
Magic Photo Cleaner currently detects four categories:
Duplicates — Exact copies of the same photo or video saved multiple times.
Similar Shots — Near-duplicate photos from burst mode, continuous shooting, or multiple attempts at the same scene.
Blurry Photos — Out-of-focus or motion-blurred images automatically flagged for review.
Low Quality — Overexposed, underexposed, or otherwise poor-quality images.
Does the app scan videos too?
Yes. Magic Photo Cleaner scans both photos and videos in your library. It can find duplicate video clips, similar recordings, and short accidental clips. Video scanning may take slightly longer depending on the size of your video library.
Does the app require an internet connection?
Magic Photo Cleaner works fully offline — all scanning and analysis is done on-device. However, there is one exception: if you use iCloud Photos with "Optimize Storage" enabled, iOS may only keep lower-resolution versions of your photos on the device to save space. When scanning, the app may attempt to download the full-resolution version from iCloud for more accurate comparison. If you have low connectivity or no internet connection, the app will fall back to scanning the optimized version already on your device — the scan will still work, but may be less precise for very similar shots.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple. To cancel, open the Settings app → [your name] → Subscriptions, find Magic Photo Cleaner, and tap Cancel Subscription. You'll retain access until the end of the current billing period. If you purchased a lifetime plan, there is nothing to cancel.
Why does the app need Full Photo Library access and not just Limited?
The app needs to compare photos across your entire library to accurately find duplicates. If you grant Limited access, the app can only see the specific photos you select — meaning duplicates stored outside that selection won't be found. For the best results, grant Full Access. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Magic Photo Cleaner.
